This paper intends to analyze the current state of reading comprehension in Spain. In order to do this, a literature review was conducted to define the theoretical framework around this language skill and a research study was carried out with a sample of 25 students from CEIP Jardín de la Reina (Granada). This study consists in the assessment of the level of reading comprehension in children between 7 and 12 years old. Three different types of multiple choice questions were posed: identifying the main idea of a text, inferential and literal questions. One of the main conclusions reached is that the results obtained throughout this study are highly positive and this might be due to the development of plans such as ‘Program for the improvement of oral and written comprehension/expression’. |
