Taking into account the deep changes regarding the relationship with the Res publica in our societies as well as the distinction between two ways of participation, we examine links between students’ participation and education for citizenship in the school frame. The text is divided into two parts, one presents the construction of our research question, the other leans on the results of a doctoral survey. The latter was carried out in primary schools in Geneva, its object is a participation device called «Class Council», that consist in the regular meetings of all members of the class about questions related to school life. Two aspects of the results of the survey are particularly outstanding: on the one hand, the participation device is the object of a process of schooling where commonplaces and school habits predominate; on the other, the verification of injustices students have to put up with, results in the formulation of moral judgements. This last result opens interesting perspectives for the didactics of social sciences and for education to citizenship: for example, the construction, by the exercise of skills of issuing judgements, of legal and political concepts. |
