It is in this context that this project is framed. With the aim of developing an autonomous vehicle (ASV) that collects rubbish, mostly plastics, floating in the water, we intend to develop an artificial vision algorithm that, by means of a camera installed in the vehicle, allows us to detect the rubbish on the ocean surface. To do this, we will make use of the YOLOv5 algorithm, which specialises in detecting objects in images. This algorithm will be re-trained with a fusion of different sets of images of rubbish in the aquatic environment with the aim of specialising the generic object detection algorithm to the field of interest. In this way, the aim is to achieve an image-based object detection algorithm robust enough to be run autonomously on board an ASV. |
