This project consists in a first approach to the theory of Causality in Lorentz manifolds aimed at the study of the singularity theorems from a physical-mathematical perspective. New increasingly complex structures will be generated from a very first introduction to the concept of smooth manifold and the different ideas developed throughout the chapters. First of all, smooth manifolds will be equipped with a metric tensor which will make the definition of semi-Riemannian manifold possible, generating a general way of measuring lengths, angles, curvature, etc. Afterward, a particular type of semi-Riemannian manifolds will be outlined: Lorentz manifolds; the general idea of space-time will be built equipping them with the concept of time orientation. At this point, General Relativity Theory and some of its simplest models will be studied briefly providing a natural connection between the previous mathematical ideas — as this theory relies on them — and the subsequent ones, introducing the concept of singularity and motivating the study of Causality theory. In this sense, the last chapter of the project will focus on the most basic concepts of Causality theory — causal relations, Cauchy hypersurfaces, etc. — generating a formalism that will culminate with the construction of the singularity theorems which will generalize the idea of singularity in any space-time under certain conditions. |
