Durante la última década se ha extendido la idea de que el denominado modelo tradicional o clásico de carrera se encuentra en crisis. Este modelo se caracteriza por la importancia de la promoción o el ascenso y por la existencia de un cierto grado de compromiso de la organización con el progreso profesional de sus empleados, cuadros y directivos. Además, se desarrolla en un contexto económico caracterizado por un notable crecimiento económico, por una cierta forma de materializar ventajas competitivas y por la vigencia de formas organizativas en las que existen jerarquías funcionales estables. Una serie de cambios en el contexto de las empresas (internacionalización de la competencia, aceleración de la tasa de innovación en productos y procesos, nuevas tecnologías de la información y de las comunicaciones, etc.), y en las características y estrategias de las mismas (nuevas formas de organización, deslocalización, downsizing, outsourcing, etc.) hacen cada vez menos viable la supervivencia de la versión tradicional de las carreras y de su gestión, dando lugar a un nuevo modelo que, bajo denominaciones diversas (carrera adaptable, sin fronteras, postcorporativa, etc), supone un contrato psicológico diferente que gira en torno al concepto de empleabilidad. |
