El motivo que ha originado la selección
del contenido teórico de este trabajo final de grado
es el profundo interés que causan, y la polémica
que suscitan, los temas oscuros. Existen ciertas
materias que resultan difíciles de tratar y que, (in)
conscientemente, se tienden a omitir u olvidar, entre
ellas, el sufrimiento humano. Siendo un tema bastante
amplio, se hace necesario acotar para mantener el
hilo de la investigación y su posterior traducción
en obras artísticas, pudiendo ser entendido desde
diferentes esferas: social, psicológica y/o física. Se
ha optado por estudiar las tres de una manera global.
Dos de los principales puntos de partida, que a su vez
sirven como referencias, son las obras de Alexander
McQueen, diseñador de moda, y de Joseph Conrad,
novelista de la literatura inglesa. En sus trabajos,
ambos exploran la violencia y la moral de los seres
humanos. El primero, en forma de (prácticamente)
esculturas textiles y, el segundo, con relatos que
ponen de manifiesto los niveles de perversión a los
que puede llegar la mente humana.
En la investigación se ahonda en términos como
deshumanización y subhumano, sirviendo estos para
fundamentar el estudio de las causas y consecuencias
de la violencia y las atrocidades cometidas a lo largo
de la historia. Concretamente, los temas sobre los
que versará este trabajo son: Las consecuencias de
los conflictos bélicos, y, la evolución y aplicación
de los métodos de tortura. Todo esto tiene una
importante traducción plástica que busca revolver
emociones y sensaciones, así como establecer un
paralelismo óptico −variaciones en la interpretación
de la realidad dependiendo del punto de vista− en
donde se hace necesario una doble lectura de las
piezas para entender lo que se está observando y
reflexionar sobre el mundo en el que vivimos.
Es bastante sorprendente que gran parte de
la sociedad desconoce mucho de los terribles
actos perpetrados por otros humanos, pero, aún
más sorprendente es el hecho de que existe una
limitación bibliográfica dedicada a estudiar y
teorizar la violencia y crueldad humana. Son las
obras artísticas las que mejor recogen e informan
sobre tiempos pasados, ya que estas producciones
son el reflejo del contexto histórico en el que fueron
concebidas. Los medios de comunicación, por otro
lado, a pesar de mantenernos actualizados, tienden
a jugar con el morbo y la demanda, tergiversación
y la desinformación, y, aunque resulte evidente la
necesidad de conocer y reconocer estos eventos,
la mayoría de las personas tienden a evitar poner
estos sensibles temas sobre la mesa. ¿Hasta dónde y
cuándo somos capaces de obviar fragmentos de una
realidad común, por el mero hecho que no somos
nosotros las víctimas de estas barbaridades?
