Current stereotypes and gender roles blur the whole reality, affecting our decisions regarding our professional future. Currently, there are different university degrees which stand out for the inequality in the number of girls and boys enrolled. In this case, focusing on the Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Seville, we observe a clear difference in terms of the scarce male representation enrolled in this degree compared to an overwhelming female majority. Care and sensitivity towards our environment has been the primary occupation of women until their incorporation into the world of work. Since then, including in the public sphere, it is mostly women who are engaged in professions based on these qualities. On the other hand, men tend to opt for professions that are closely linked to the male gender, because of the skills and qualities that stand out in them. Thus, the discrediting of early childhood teaching and the feminisation of this qualification has led 5 to this inequality. In order to compensate for this, it is necessary to know the type of boy who breaks these stereotypes and in what way his environment has favoured his teaching vocation. It is precisely this question that this TFG attempts to answer. The main conclusion of the study is that the men who study this degree show personal and professional qualities that are far removed from hegemonic masculinity, as well as a predilection for caring for children. Boys are aware of the existing gender differences in their future profession and of the gender stereotypes and roles that sustain this inequality. |
