The purpose of this work is to carry out a journey through the history of Christianity during the 3rd, 4th and 5th centuries, through the study of certain currents of opinion defined as heresies, against orthodoxy, that arose as this time, threatening the foundations of the doctrines that centuries ago Jesus, the Son of God, had spoken in Galilee. Heresies, as we will see, were born in response to confusions or doctrinal gasp in an unsuccessful attempt to explain the inexplicable, such as the truths of the faith, but they went far beyond a purely religious question when the political powers and, along with them, part of the population intervened in their condemnation or defence. Defenders of the orthodoxy rose up against Arianism, Nestorianism and Monophysistism, led by some of the most prominent thinkers on the history of the Church. The fight between the contestants was reflected in the ecumenical councils that, as we will see, caused tensions and divisions within Christianity itself and, in general, did not achieve their objectives, since heresies survived in some regions of the Christian world and even outside, since the Nestorianism had an extraordinary diffusion, through the Silk Road, throughout Asia. |
