El cristianismo de Nicea a Constantinopla

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene como fin realizar un recorrido por la historia del cristianismo durante los siglos III, IV y V, a través del estudio de ciertas corrientes de opinión definidas como herejías, frente a la ortodoxia oficial u ortodoxa, que surgieron en esta época, amenazando las bases de la doctrina que siglos atrás había predicado Jesús, el hijo de Dios, en Galilea. Las herejías, como veremos, nacieron como respuesta a confusiones o vacíos doctrinales en un intento infructuoso de explicar lo inexplicable, como son las verdades de la fe, pero fueron mucho más allá de una cuestión meramente religiosa al intervenir en su condena o defensa los poderes políticos y, junto a ellos, parte de la población. Contra el arrianismo, el nestorianismo o el monofisismo se alzaron los defensores de la ortodoxia, encabezados por algunos de los pensadores más prominentes de la historia de la Iglesia. La lucha entre los contendientes quedó plasmada en los concilios ecuménicos que, como veremos, causaron tensiones y divisiones en el seno del propio cristianismo y, en general, no consiguieron sus objetivos, pues las herejías pervivieron en algunas regiones del mundo cristiano e incluso fuera, ya que el nestorianismo tuvo una extraordinaria difusión, a través de la Ruta de la Seda, por toda Asia.

The purpose of this work is to carry out a journey through the history of Christianity during the 3rd, 4th and 5th centuries, through the study of certain currents of opinion defined as heresies, against orthodoxy, that arose as this time, threatening the foundations of the doctrines that centuries ago Jesus, the Son of God, had spoken in Galilee. Heresies, as we will see, were born in response to confusions or doctrinal gasp in an unsuccessful attempt to explain the inexplicable, such as the truths of the faith, but they went far beyond a purely religious question when the political powers and, along with them, part of the population intervened in their condemnation or defence. Defenders of the orthodoxy rose up against Arianism, Nestorianism and Monophysistism, led by some of the most prominent thinkers on the history of the Church. The fight between the contestants was reflected in the ecumenical councils that, as we will see, caused tensions and divisions within Christianity itself and, in general, did not achieve their objectives, since heresies survived in some regions of the Christian world and even outside, since the Nestorianism had an extraordinary diffusion, through the Silk Road, throughout Asia.
