Pop culture has been creating people as icons, which serve and have served as a reference for a large crowd. In the same way, within the musical field, great pop divas have stood out, whose musical content is made to be consumed by many people and to be easily recognizable and memorable. Pop genre itself manages to establish many followers around the world, so the judgment of the diva is crucial when it comes to getting a specific message across. That is why, given the repercussion that these singers can eventually have and the magnitude of their actions, they acquire an important task when it comes to giving visibility to certain topics, taking as main in this case the one related to the reality of the LGTB+ community and its obstacles and other associated inconveniences, as well as other issues that they and other groups face undeservedly, be it for example gender inequality. At certain moments in their professional careers, some of these pop divas tend to be considered gay or LGTB+ icons due to their careers. The research presented here aims to analyse the elements (statements, philanthropy, collaborations, difficulties, lyrics, videoclips, etc.) that surround three international pop divas (Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry) and that make them LGTB+ icons for the society. |
