The following work deals with an intervention proposal on an alternative methodological approach called problem-based learning (PBL) for students in the 5th grade of primary education. A bibliographical review of this methodological proposal is presented, as well as the use of it within a classroom of primary education and its subsequent analysis. It is intended to promote values that lead to a critical attitude and awareness of the problems that surround society today, as well as the needs that it will demand in the future, in topical issues as important as the inequality of gender or racism, immigration and unequal distribution of resources. The pedagogical principles underpinning this intervention will be the figure of the pupil with an active agent and responsible for his own learning from the research within 5 a framework of cooperation and the role of the teacher as a mere guide to the learning of the students
