Aplicaciones didácticas del patrimonio científico de Historia Natural en la práctica docente actual en la Enseñanza Secundaria

Abstract

En los Institutos históricos se conserva un rico patrimonio científico. En nuestro instituto, el IES Isabel la Católica de Madrid conservamos y ponemos en valor el patrimonio del Instituto-Escuela, Sección Retiro, creado por la Junta para Ampliación de Estudios (JAE) , que presidió Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Además, aplicando en las prácticas docentes actuales este patrimonio científico de Historia Natural, implicamos a nuestros alumnos en distintos trabajos interdisciplinares. Así ha sido con el estudio de la Biodiversidad, o de la Geología a través de las colecciones científicas y maquetas históricas. En las prácticas de laboratorio actuales hemos incorporado el material científico histórico digitalizado. El objetivo es dar un uso didáctico del patrimonio histórico de Historia Natural, conseguir que los alumnos profundicen en la materia impartida, valoren el patrimonio y se sensibilicen en su recuperación, conservación y difusión

Secondary schools store a rich scientific heritage. In our school, in particular, –IES Isabel la Católica in Madrid- we are in charge of preserving the heritage belonging to the “Instituto-Escuela Sección Retiro”, which was created by the “Junta para Ampliación de Estudios” (JAE) and whose chairman was Santiago Ramón y Cajal. As a step forward in this work, we are integrating this Natural History heritage in our current teaching practices, engaging our students in various interdisciplinary projects. Some interesting results of this new approach have been their studies in Biodiversity and Geology through the use of the scientific collections and the historical scale models. For our current laboratory practices, we have also introduced scanned copies of scientific material. The purpose of this project is to exploit the school’s Natural History heritage didactically as a means for the students to go further into the different subjects and get better appreciation of heritage, thus making them aware of the importance of recovering, preserving and making this wealth known to the public.
