El hereje muere varias veces: tratamiento y actitudes hacia el cuerpo transgresor en el México colonial

Abstract

Este artículo propone la investigación del tratamiento mortuorio a los herejes y transgresores en el México colonial y que resultó en enterramientos desviados. Considerando ese contexto cultural, se explora cómo el miedo o necrofobia hacia el cuerpo del hereje y las ideas sobre el más allá encontraron expresión en ciertas prácticas funerarias. Con fuentes primarias, secundarias y arqueológicas, se identifica dicho tratamiento y posibles sitios de reposo de esos transgresores.

This research proposal focuses on the mortuary treatment of heretics and transgressors in colonial Mexico, that resulted in deviant burials. It explores how the fears held by members of the colonial society in Mexico against the body of the heretic, and ideas on the afterlife, found expression in peculiar funerary practices. Primary and secondary sources, and archaeological information, identified such treatment and possible deposition sites of those transgressors.
