Peculiaridades del editorial ante acontecimientos que marcan la historia. El caso de los editoriales del 12 de septiembre de 2001

Abstract

Asumir una postura editorial requiere cautela, coherencia y documentación. Hay, sin embargo, acontecimientos tan importantes que demandan un posicionamiento rápido del periódico como institución social. El presente artículo analiza el caso de los editoriales publicados por los principales periódicos españoles el 12 de septiembre de 2001, tras los atentados terroristas en Estados Unidos, y estudia las peculiaridades que adopta este género periodístico. La prensa, consciente de que esta excepcional demanda de reflexión puede también marcar profundamente la trayectoria editorial de un medio, intentó que sus editoriales fueran noticia.

Taking an editorial position requires care, consistency and good documentation. Nevertheless, there are certain events that demand the speedy adoption of a standpoint from the newspaper as a social institution. This article analyzes the case of editorials published by the leading Spanish newspapers on the 12th September 2001, following the terrorist attack against the United States, and studies the specificities of this journalistic genre. The press, aware of the fact that the exceptional demand for a response could have a profound effect on the editorial line of the medium in question, tried to present their editorials as news items in themselves.
