Los actuales cambios sociales, económicos, culturales que estamos viviendo están influyendo de forma decisiva en la identidad profesional del profesor en nuestro país y en el ámbito de los países de la UE. La construcción de la identidad profesional se inicia en la formación inicial y luego continua durante su ejercicio profesional. Entre los factores que inciden en la construcción de la identidad profesional se encuentran los motivos de satisfacción e insatisfacción del trabajo realizado así como la valoración de la profesión por parte de la sociedad. Si bien hay una fuerte valoración social de la importancia de los estudios y de la labor profesional de los profesores por parte de los padres de los alumnos (Ibañez-Martín et al., 1998), al profesorado no le llega el eco de esta percepción. Al contrario, existe una percepción negativa de la profesión docente (Esteve, 2006; Egido, 2008; Eurydice, 2004b, 2005; Pérez Juste, 2008; Sarramona, 2008). Según datos de Eurydice (2012), Imbernón (2006), OCDE (2005 y 2011), más del 50% del profesorado de infantil y primaria en España es mayor de 40 años y es una situación muy similar a la de la mayoría de los países llegando a más del 70% en el caso de Alemania, Suecia e Italia. Este dato nos sitúa en la problemática del envejecimiento del profesorado que supondrá una fuerte demanda de nuevos maestros. Si bien el atractivo de la profesión docente depende de variables que están fuera de nuestro control –tales como la historia, la cultura y el status de la profesión docente de cada país- hay una serie de factores que han ayudado a la situación de desprestigio actual de la profesión docente en la sociedad occidental. La generalización de la educación ha supuesto grandes avances pero también ha dejado grandes retos por resolver y ha elevado las expectativas que la sociedad deposita en la educación a niveles desproporcionados al poner en ella todos los problemas no resueltos de la sociedad (Hargreaves, 1996). Este proceso de “educacionalización”, perceptible en países de Europa occidental y USA, consistente en que las escuelas son vistas cada vez más como los sitios a los que redirigir y resolver los problemas sociales (Alliaud y Davini, 1997; Hooge et al., 2011), se encuentra con un profesorado que no se siente preparado para poder hacerlo y ven poca eficacia en que puedan resolver estos problemas sociales. Esto ha supuesto la injerencia por parte de todos -políticos, medios de comunicación y público en general- pero todo ello sin oír las voces de los protagonistas que deben llevarla a cabo: los profesores. Para conseguir políticas efectivas, destacamos la necesidad de conocer las preocupaciones de los maestros y sus percepciones sobre la profesión así como la calidad motivacional de su decisión de optar por estudios de maestro. |
