El escultor sevillano Cristóbal de Ojeda y su partida al Perú

Abstract

En el presente artículo analizamos la figura del escultor sevillano Cristóbal de Ojeda, quien solicitó licencia para trasladarse a trabajar al Virreinato del Perú, recién constituido. Ojeda fue uno de los primeros artistas andaluces, que ostentando el cargo de maestro de escultura e imaginería, decide trasladarse a América en busca de mejoras económicas y de una mayor calidad de vida. El análisis de los legajos documentales localizados en el Archivo General de Indias de Sevilla aportarán nuevos datos para conocer aspectos fundamentales de la vida de este insigne escultor andaluz.

The present article focuses on analyzing the figure of the sculptor from Seville Cristóbal de Ojeda, who asked for a license to move and work in the recently founded Virreinato de Perú. Ojeda was one of the first artists from Andalusia that, having the mastery in sculpture and imagery, decided to move to America looking for economical improvements and for a better life quality. The analysis of documents founded at the Archivo General de Indias of Seville will undoubtedly provide new information in order to know key aspects of the life of this prominent Andalusian sculptor.
