El proyecto de Manuel Puchal para reedificar las casas de la Catedral de Guadalajara en Nueva Galicia en 1777

Abstract

Las casas pertenecientes a la fábrica de la iglesia novogalaica se alojaron en el frente oeste del edifico catedralicio, al lado de la Real Caja. El avanzado estado de deterioro que presentaba el inmueble en el último tercio del siglo XVIII obligó a una urgente remodelación del mismo. Hubo un proyecto de reedificación realizado en 1777 que si bien fue aceptado en un principio, no se llevó a cabo debido a la poca coherencia que presentaba el diseño en la disposición de las casas y en la distribución de las diferentes dependencias. Tras rechazarse en 1780, se solicitó la realización de otro que remediase las carencias estructurales del anterior, el cual se presentó y aprobó, poniéndose en marca la obra que concluyó en 1784. El interés de la iglesia por ver terminado el edificio para su uso y la relativa rapidez con la que se sucedieron las obras de construcción hicieron que presentara diferentes desperfectos al mismo tiempo de haberse finalizado.

The houses belonging to the New Galician church were situated to the front west of the Cathedral building, next to the Royal Treasury. The advanced state of deterioration of the properties in the second half of the 18th century necessitated an urgent remodelling of them. A rebuilding project was drafted in 1777, which despite being initially accepted, was not carried out due to its lack of coherence in the arrangement of the different areas in the buildings. After this being rejected in 1780, another project, which would solve the structural deficiency of the previous one, was requested. This new project was presented and approved, therefore putting into motion the relevant building work, which was completed in 1784. The interest of the church to see the building completed for its use prompted the relative speediness of the construction work, which lead to flaws being present on its completion.
