The aeronautical industry has recently begun to implement the use of composite materials in the development of the various new generation aircraft that are intended to be launched on the market. The study of the main element that allows different composite sheets to be joined together (the adhesive material) is fundamental to understanding and predicting the behaviour of these structures. But even while maintaining the presence of homogeneous materials such as traditional aluminium, the industry is particularly focused on weight reduction. This weight reduction can be done by replacing traditional rivets with adhesive interface components. In this context, the Finite Element Method analysis of four different adhesive fracture problems will be developed, verifying the analytical solutions proposed above using the Finite Element software FEniCS. |
