This review aims to study the characteristics of this bacteria and the diseases it produces. As well as, to examine the current situation of the resistance to antibiotics of Salmonella and the mechanisms involved. The disease that it provokes is transmitted by food, specially eggs. However, the symptoms are not serious. being gastroenteritis the most common one. Due to this, the need of treatment is no usual, being just necessary in the more serious cases. Nevertheless, due to increase of antibiotic resistance by bacteria, those cases in which treatment is needed are highly 6 likely to fail. The cause of this rise in resistance may be due to the excessive use of antimicrobials in food production. In addition, the genes involved in antibiotic resistance in the bacteria studied are usually present in mobile elements, such as plasmids. As is the case with resistance to fluoroquinolones in Salmonella, in which mutations are present in the gyrA, gyrB parC and parE genes. Regarding resistance to cephalosporins, resistance is governed by plasmids-mediated ampC β-lactamases. While resistance to macrolides the genes mainly involved are mph(A), erm(B), erm(42) and ramAp. For its part, multiresistance is also on the rise, being acquired thanks to efflux pumps, with great importance as a target for future drugs to fight resistance. |
