In this paper, Smart Villages (SV) are considered to possess smartness associated with community action from the bottom up that contributes to the welfare of the local population in situ, this smartness being more than just an element of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure quality and the rural population’s ability to use this technology. The proposed aim is to examine the interactivity on some specific social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter—currently rebranding to X—and YouTube) used by those Spanish profit-free associations responsible for the local management and application of sustainable rural development policies and the relationship of this interactivity with the main territorial features. To this end, 16 indicators have been defined—as the basis for a multivariate analysis of the scaled summations obtained from the indicators—determined by a linear correlation coefficient (r), a principal component analysis (PCA) and a k-means cluster analysis. Once the main results have been obtained and interpreted by landscape, they can facilitate the construction of a smart village ecosystem. The study shows how the interactivity of the administration with the private sector and society is a tool for increasing participation in decision-making processes, and for encouraging transparency and accountability in public bodies, both of which lead to a smarter society. The social media provide effective platforms for the public administration to be able to communicate with society through the publication of relevant information and the creation of community dialogue spaces.] |
