dc.description.abstract | In this work we will present an introduction to partition theory. In the first chapter
we will see the definition of partition, some relevant examples and finally a geometric representation.
In the second and third chapters we will see some of Euler’s contributions
to partition theory and we will examine p(n), that is, we will see a recursive formula
and an upper bound for p(n) that later J. H. van Lint refined. Then, the fourth chapter
describes a renowned Jacobi identity, from which many other identities of partitions
arise, such as Euler’s pentagonal Theorem. We will also see that there are other ways to
obtain recursive formulas, which will be through logarithmic derivation, a method that
we will explain in the fifth chapter. The sixth chapter will be dedicated exclusively to
the surprising Ramanujan identities, we will see what they are and their proof, and we
will also see the Rogers-Ramanujan identities. Finally, in the penultimate chapter we
will see another of Ramanujan’s surprising results that is related to continued fractions,
and in the last chapter we will see the asymptotic formula given by Hardy-Ramanujan
in 1918 and the “exact” formula given later by Rademacher in 1937. | es |
