“Prensa, luego fotografía” en Asturias: los inicios del diario Región

Abstract

El siguiente artículo se configura como un capítulo de una investigación mayor en curso sobre el empleo de la fotografía en la prensa asturiana y su capacidad de trasmitir, desde un punto de vista social, los sucesos más destacados de la historia de Asturias desde 1930 hasta nuestros días. Este amplio marco cronológico se debe a un vacío bibliográfico donde no existe un estudio unificado del fotoperiodismo asturiano del siglo XX y que coloca un aparente punto final a su historia entre la segunda y tercera décadas del siglo. A partir de aquí, este artículo se centra en el diario Región, que también carece de una investigación individual en la actualidad. Tras sesenta años de trabajo, su redacción fue un gran apoyo para la fotografía, que defendía su capacidad como medio de comunicación y trasmisión de ideas. De esta forma, gracias a este diario, obtenemos una de las mejores memorias visuales del siglo XX asturiano.

The following article is configured as a chapter of a larger investigation in progress on the use of photography in the Asturian press and its ability to transmit, from a social point of view, the most outstanding events in the history of Asturias from 1930 to the present days. This broad chronological framework arises due to a bibliographic gap, in which there is no unified study of 20th century Asturian photojournalism, and which places an apparent end point to its history between the second and third decades of the century. From here, this article focuses on the diario Región, which also currently lacks an individual investigation. After sixty years of work, its newsroom was a great support for photography, and a defender of its capacity as a means of communication and transmission of ideas. In this way, thanks to this newspaper, we obtain one of the best visual memories of the Asturian 20th century.
