// Museums: contemporary art, science and technology. Today's museums combine an interest in art and new technologies, which sometimes translates, in the case of Spain, into the fusion of both concepts in large architectural complexes. Such is the case of the City of Arts and Sciences, designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela (Valencia, 1998), or the City of Culture of Galicia (Santiago de Compostela, 2018) designed by Peter Eisenman. These are new scenarios that come to join the contemporary art museums that preceded them, such as the Galician Centre for Contemporary Art (CGAC) (Santiago de Compostela, 1993) by Álvaro Siza, the MACBA (Barcelona, 1995) by Richard Meier, the Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao, 1997) by Frank Gehry or the Extension of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) (Madrid, 1995). 2005) by Jean Nouvel. The research is based on a case study focused on contemporary museum proposals that combine in their designs the interest in art and technology and refer to various proposals, both by Zaha Hadid and the Diller Scofidio + Renfro studio. In relation to Zaha Hadid, numerous examples can be cited such as the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art (CAC) (Cincinnatti, 1998), the Phaeno Science Center (Wolfsburg, 2005), the Messner Mountain Corones Museum (MMM) (South Tyrol, Italy, 2006), the Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion (Paris, 2007), the National Museum of 21st Century Art (MAXXI) (Rome, 2010), the Eli and Edythe Broad Museum of Michigan State University (Michigan, 2005). 2012), the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center (Baku, Azerbaijan, 2013) and the Changsha Meixihu International Center for Culture and Art (Changsha Shi, China, 2019). In the case of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, we can mention the Berkeley Museum of Art and Filmoteca Pacífic (Berkeley, 2008), the Perry and Marty Granoff Center for the Creative Arts, Brown University (Providence, USA, 2011), The Broad Museum (Los Angeles, 2015), The Shed Cultural Center (New York, 2019), the Renovation of the Museum of Modern Art (New York, 2019). 2019) or the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum (Colorado Springs, 2020). |
