Unlike interventions in past architectures, where reconstruction was only recognised in the Krakow Charter (2000) and provided that the building had been “destroyed by armed conflict or natural disasters” and, furthermore, if “there are exceptional social or cultural reasons that are related to the identity of the community”, the rehabilitation of architecture of the International Style presents cases that contradict this issue. The status of structural collapse due to the use of new materials at the beginning of the last century makes it impossible to act as indicated in the Charters for the Restoration. Even the Document of Madrid (2011), concerning 20th century architecture, fortunately advises against reconstruction. However, in those cases where collapse is evident and where structural collapse makes impossible any possibility other than the reconstruction of the affected area, the option of a reliable and mimetic reproduction through the use of surveying based on techniques such as laser scanning or digital photogrammetry may become an option to be considered. |
