The main objective of this Final Degree Project is the study of the different Diagnostic Systems in Fuel Cells in Transportation Applications. In the first place, the state of the art in which fuel cells are currently found will be analyzed. The historical framework of them will be shown and we will briefly explain what hydrogen technology consists of. It will be detailed what are the different production methods of H2, how we can store it and its transport. From there, we will go into fuel cells, explaining their operation, behavior and the type of cells that exist. It will be commented on the degradation of fuel cells, as well as the types that exist. Next, it will be shown the most relevant aspects of this project: the study of fuel cell diagnostic systems. The following most important topics will be detailed: - The polarization curve, which is a graph of cell potential versus current density. - Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). is an electrochemical method used in corrosion studies, which is based on the use of an alternating current (AC) signal that is applied to an electrode (corroding metal) and determining the corresponding response. This last point will be explained in detail later. Furthermore, this idea will be developed as a proposal to be able to bring the implementation of the EIS technique to vehicles. Currently, it requires very expensive equipment and it would not be feasible to put it into practice. Finally, I will present a series of conclusions, where I will collect the most relevant aspects that we have been able to capture from this Final Degree Project. |
