Abstract

La figura de Hubert Meersmans de Smet resultó ser clave en el ámbito cultural y social granadino de principios del siglo XX, llegando a alcanzar repercusión internacional su profusa actividad como promotor y mecenas en el arte. Supo enlazar su espíritu emprendedor con su pasión por el arte, exuberante coleccionista, y comerciante en arte, fue promotor de la construcción en la Alhambra de uno de los primeros edificios construidos ex profeso para museo en el territorio andaluz. El desempeño en el estudio de su vida, obra y actividad, y su relevancia en el ámbito cultural nos traza el camino para nuestro objetivo de trabajar para la conservación, recuperación, y la difusión, dando a conocer y poniendo en valor el patrimonio histórico artístico legado en el tiempo.

The figure of Hubert Meersmans de Smet turned out to be key in the cultural and social field of Granada in the early twentieth century, reaching its international impact as a promoter and patron in art. He knew how to link his entrepreneurial spirit with his passion for art, exuberant collector, and art dealer. He was promoter of the construction of one of the first buildings built on purpose for museum in the Andalusian territory in the Alhambra.
