It is the main engine in the formation of orographic structures. Barriers that determine the development of different climatology types, environments and the biodiversity evolution. The following work shows the reader how a specific geological formation, the Great African Rift, could have originated in the human evolution. However, to reach this conclusion, a first brief overview of the different theories associated with plate tectonics is carried out, highlighting relevant authors such as Wegener (1915), Hess (1962) and Wilson (1960). Afterwards, it defines the meaning of the term specie and explains the models that act in the speciation process. Consecutively, it focuses the attention on the course of hominization within a tectonic context located in Africa. Finally, it is exposed some singular cases where the hominid branch, outside African continent, has been affected in different historical periods by plate tectonics, such as the Toba supervolcano, the Campos Flégreos or the appearance of a new species, Homo floresiensis. |
