Ponencia Smart Grid Stochastic Optimization with Ant Colony-based Scenario Generation(Elsevier, 2024-08) Fernández Valderrama, Daniel; Ferro, Giulio; Guerrero Alonso, Juan Ignacio; León de Mora, Carlos; Parodi, Luca; Robba, Michela; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología Electrónica; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICIN). España; European Union (UE); Universidad de Sevilla. TIC150: Tecnología Electrónica e Informática IndustrialThis paper presents a stochastic optimization approach for the operational management of sustainable energy districts and polygeneration microgrids. Stochastic operation optimization allows for an uncertain approach to deal with imprecise variables. A new approach is here presented for generating scenarios based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) to assess the uncertainties related to inexact data, renewable energy sources and power demand. In fact, due to the uncertainties related to forecasting loads and renewables, it is necessary to analyze the probability of occurrence of the prediction and the different scenarios that could be faced. Then, based on the generated scenarios and probabilities, a scenario-based two-stage stochastic optimization approach has been formulated to optimize the operation strategies of the various technologies and solve the unit commitment problem under uncertainty. The developed models have been applied to the Savona Campus Smart Polygeneration Microgrid, and historical data from 2018 have been used.Ponencia Probabilistic Power Forecasting in a Microgrid for the Integration of Distributed Energy Resources(Elsevier, 2024-08) Parejo Matos, Antonio; Bracco, Stefano; García Caro, Sebastián; Personal Vázquez, Enrique; Guerrero Alonso, Juan Ignacio; León de Mora, Carlos; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología Electrónica; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICIN). España; European Union (UE); Universidad de Sevilla. TIC150: Tecnología Electrónica e Informática IndustrialThe integration of distributed energy resources in the power grid supposes a great challenge, considering the expected growing in the electric mobility and the renewable generation. Therefore, to support the successful deployment of these resources, energy management according to the expected behaviors of the elements of power grids is required. In this sense, the probabilistic forecasting methods are gaining acceptance, as they provide richer information than deterministic methods thanks to the consideration of expected probabilities. One of their problems is that the application of metrics for choosing the best models is not simple, depending on the objective of the type of probabilistic prediction that must be performed. In this paper, diverse types of forecasting are performed, and two possible approaches for selecting interval forecasting models are compared in a case study centered on the Smart Polygeneration Microgrid (SPM) located on the Savona Campus of University of Genova (Italy). The results show that, for the machine learning models that were tested, it is better to obtain a model for each of the different types of forecasting that are required (quantiles, and the prediction intervals) to have better-quality predictions. The average improvement on the quality of the tested prediction intervals for the three forecasted variables were a 27.40%, 7.39%, and 28.65% in their Winkler score respectively.Ponencia A novel term weighting scheme for a fuzzy logic based intelligent web agent(2008) Gómez Gutiérrez, Álvaro Ariel; Ropero Rodríguez, Jorge; León de Mora, Carlos; Carrasco Muñoz, Alejandro; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología Electrónica; Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (MEC). EspañaTerm Weighting (TW) is one of the most important tasks for Information Retrieval (IR). To solve the TW problem, many authors have considered Vector Space Model, and specifically, they have used the TF-IDF method. As this method does not take into account some of the features of terms, we propose a novel alternative fuzzy logic based method for TW in IR. TW is an essential task for the Web Intelligent Agent we are developing. Intelligent Agent mode of operation is also explained in the paper. An application of the Intelligent Agent will be in operation soon for the University of Seville web portal.Ponencia Biofeedback in breast cancer rehabilitation: Applying the WHO ICF core set to identify opportunities and recommendations(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE), 2019) Brennan, Louise; Dorronzoro Zubiete, Enrique; Caulfield, Brian; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología Electrónica; Horizonte 2020 (Unión Europea); Universidad de Sevilla—Digital biofeedback technologies are used in physical rehabilitation to improve motor learning and enhance engagement with therapies, but they are unfrequently used in breast cancer rehabilitation. Digital biofeedback interventions should be custom-made for the specific breast cancer context. The WHO ICF Core Set for Breast Cancer describes this context by itemising the biopsychosocial and environmental factors associated with breast cancer. We analysed this Core Set to identify opportunities for biofeedback intervention, and to make recommendations for successful, inclusive design of digital biofeedback interventions in breast cancer rehabilitation. Impairments of strength, joint movement and upper limb function present opportunities for the development of digital biofeedback interventions. Factors related to sensory loss, lymphoedema, chemotherapy-related cognitive dysfunction and fatigue should be considered when designing and evaluating biofeedback systems.Ponencia A System for the Generation and Detection of Electrical Disturbances(A Scientific and Technical Company (ACTA Press), 2004-06) Monedero Goicoechea, Iñigo Luis; León de Mora, Carlos; Ropero Rodríguez, Jorge; Vega, José Luis de la; Montaño Asquerino, Juan-Carlos; Elena Ortega, José Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología ElectrónicaCurrently industrial information provides even more granular information through unit and equipment databases, which provide details about installed equipment, including models, designed capacity, throughput, and start up/shutdown dates for turbines, generators, refining equipment, etc. All these data and information are stored in digital repositories, digital archives, and business Web sites. Access to these collections poses a serious challenge. The present search techniques based on manually annotated metadata and linear replay of the material selected by the user do not scale effectively or efficiently to large collections. This can significantly reduce the accuracy of the search and draw in irrelevant documents. The artificial intelligence and Semantic Web provide a common framework that allows knowledge to be shared and reused in an efficient way. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive approach for discovering information objects in large digital repositories based on analysis of recorded semantic metadata and the application of Case Based Reasoning technique. We suggest a conceptual architecture for a semantic search engine. We have developed a prototype, which suggests a new form of interaction between users and digital enterprise repositories, to support efficient share distributed knowledge.Ponencia Experiencia en la adaptación de una asignatura de máster para su impartición completa a distancia(Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), 2020) Viejo Cortés, Julián; Carrasco Muñoz, Alejandro; Juan Chico, Jorge; Ruiz de Clavijo Vázquez, Paulino; Cano Quiveu, Germán; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología ElectrónicaThe aim of this paper is to show the utility of expert systems in the task of designing cable networks. At Enditel Endesa' we are currently developing a project called Datacab in collaboration with the Electronic Technology Department of the University of Seville. Datacab is an expert system for automatic routing and positioning of the elements of both the civil design and the cabling of a cable telecommunication network. It uses as input data from a GIS (Geographic Information System) and obtains an optimal design by applying a specific design rules database. Datacah's representation of the geographic information is entirely based on graphs. Among the advantages of the proposed expert system approach is the possibility to add new rules or to modify present rules easily if design criteria change.Ponencia A real-time system for the generation and detection of electrical disturbances(IEEE, 2004-10) Monedero Goicoechea, Iñigo Luis; León de Mora, Carlos; García, Antonio; Elena Ortega, José Manuel; Montaño Asquerino, Juan-Carlos; Ropero Rodríguez, Jorge; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología ElectrónicaA non-technical loss is defined as any consumed energy or service which is not billed because of measurement equipment failure or ill-intentioned and fraudulent manipulation of said equipment. This paper describes new approaches to the detection of these for electrical companies. Concretely two different methods are proposed: one based on the detection by means of a clustering process with decision trees and another one with a simple but effective algorithm that allows detecting the customers with drastic drops of consumption. The analysis and the obtained results correspond to real customers of Endesa Company (one of the most important electrical companies of Spain).Ponencia Classification of Disturbances in Electrical Signals Using Neural Networks(Springer, 2001-06-12) León de Mora, Carlos; López Ojeda, Antonio; Monedero Goicoechea, Iñigo Luis; Montaño, Juan C.; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Tecnología ElectrónicaThis paper describes a currently project accomplished by the authors in the area of Power Quality (PQ) using artificial neural networks (ANN). The efforts are oriented to obtain a product (Power disturbances monitor for threephase systems) that permits a real time detection, automatic classification, and record process of impulsive or oscillatory voltage transients, long term disturbances, and waveform distortions in electrical three-phase AC signals. To classify the electrical disturbances, we consider using a fully connected feedforward ANN with a backpropagation learning method based on Generalized Delta Rule. In order to select the best alternative more than 200 network architectures were tested. Long-term disturbances, like swells or longduration interruptions, have been detected using a method based on the test of the RMS value of the signal. Short-term disturbances, like sags, are detected by sampling a cycle of the electrical signal, and waveform distortions are detected using the main harmonics of the signal. To train the ANN we have developed a three-phase virtual generator of electrical disturbances. In order to compress the ANN input data we use the Wavelet Transform.Ponencia Virtualization environment for IT labs development and assessment(IEE Xplore, 2022) Viejo Cortés, Julián; Ruiz de Clavijo Vázquez, Paulino; Ostúa Arangüena, Enrique; Cano Quiveu, Germán; Juan Chico, Jorge; Universidad de Sevilla. The proposed technique uses an FPGA reconfigurable clock generator circuit that changes the generated clock frequency for a circuit in real time. By systematically increasing the clock frequency and monitoring the response of the circuit, the real maximum operating frequency can be determined. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is demonstrated through simulation and experimental results with the development of an experimental system. The results show that it can accurately determine the maximum operating frequency of a circuit while maintaining its reliability and integrity.Ponencia A Simple Power Analysis of an FPGA implementation of a polynomial multiplier for the NTRU cryptosystem(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2023-12) Camacho Ruiz, Eros; Sánchez Solano, Santiago; Martínez Rodríguez, Macarena Cristina; Tena Sánchez, Erica; Brox Jiménez, Piedad; Universidad de Sevilla. TIC180: Diseño de Circuitos Integrados Digitales y MixtosAs quantum computing technology advances, the security of traditional cryptographic systems is becoming increasingly vulnerable. To address this issue, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) has emerged as a promising solution that can withstand the brute force of quantum computers. However, PQC is not immune to attacks that exploit weaknesses in implementation, such as Side Channel Attacks (SCAs). SCAs can extract secret keys by analyzing the physical characteristics such as power consumption of the device while performing cryptographic operation. Simple Power Analysis (SPA) is a type of SCA that uses power consumption measurements to extract sensitive information. By applying SPA to a specific hardware implementation of a PQC algorithm such as the NTRU, potential vulnerabilities can appear in the Arithmetic Unit (AU) in charge of the multiplication operation. The effectiveness of this analysis to extract sensitive information has been evaluated through extensive experiments in which different countermeasures and strategies have been proposed, as well as an accelerated algorithm has been implemented. The results demonstrate that SPA can point out security breaches in the NTRU implementation, indicating an issue that can affect the PQC in the future.Ponencia A Security Comparison between AES-128 and AES-256 FPGA implementations against DPA attacks(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2023-12) Zúñiga González, Virginia; Tena Sánchez, Erica; Acosta Jiménez, Antonio José; Universidad de Sevilla. TIC180: Diseño de Circuitos Integrados Digitales y MixtosAs the AES is the standard symmetric cipher selected by NIST, is the best-known and the most widely used block cipher. Consequently, security threats are constantly rising and increasingly powerful. With the addition of the upcoming scenario of quantum computing, these threats have become a front-line concern in the crypto-community. Although is claimed that using larger key sizes in symmetric key algorithms for implementing quantum-resistant implementations is enough to counteract brute force attacks, this paper shows that both AES-128 and AES-256 are vulnerable to Power Analysis attacks. This paper presents a security comparison against Differential Power Analysis (DPA) attacks over both AES 128-256. Through experimental attacks in FPGA AES implementations, results show that although AES-256 reaches a greater level of security than AES-128, is still vulnerable to this kind of attack. Specifically, we have obtained 75% of the bytes needed to find the original key for AES-128 while only 28.125% for AES-256 by performing the same attack.Ponencia Term weighting: novel fuzzy logic based method vs. classical tf-idf method for web information extraction(Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (Insticc), 2009) Ropero Rodríguez, Jorge; Gómez Gutiérrez, Álvaro Ariel; León de Mora, Carlos; Carrasco Muñoz, Alejandro; Universidad de Sevilla. TIC180: Diseño de Circuitos Integrados Digitales y MixtosThe Electromagnetic Fault Injection (EMFI) is one of the methods to inject faults in the circuits with different purposes, from the security analysis point of view to the study of resilience against environmental conditions of the circuits. Focusing on secure cryptographic applications, in order to study the vulnerability of a circuit and perform successful attacks, it is necessary to induce the electromagnetic (EM) field in a very specific point in the surface of the circuit. This aspect, together with extra inconveniences as for example metal shields of the last metal layers of chips, results in a very poor effi ciency in the fault injection through this technique, hindering the possibilities to perform the attacks. This paper presents a experimental cartography generation methodology to carry out automatic EMFI attacks. The presented methodology allows to improve the efficiency in fault injection attacks, showing the areas where the circuit presents greater vulnerabilities against the EM disturbances, allowing to focus the attacks on those points. As demonstrator vehicle, a SRAM is used. Results show that following the steps of the proposed methodology, it is able to detect the point with the maximum fault injection efficiency, along with a great precision of the fault injection, reaching up to been able to inject one bit single fault in the SRAM.Ponencia Smart bracelet for anxiety(Kalpa Publications in Computing, 2023-02) Navarro-Moreno, Noelia; Lebrato Vázquez, Clara; Molina Cantero, Alberto Jesús; Merino Monge, Manuel; Lafuente Arroyo, Sergio; Castro García, Juan Antonio; Universidad de Sevilla.
