The main aim of this work is to get numerical models based on the Finite Element Method in order to simulate the Inter-Laminar Tensile Strength test in the software Abaqus. The high dispersion observed in the ILTS tests has motivated the execution of this investigation. Two damage and failure mechanisms has been considered: 1) Failure initiated by the maximum interlaminar normal stress. 2) Failure initiated by intralaminar damage and subsequent delamination. Three models have been used based on a LEBIM interface (Lineal Elastic Brittle Interface Model) that was developed by the Group of Elasticity and Strength of Materials of the Universidad de Sevilla. This interface can model both, delamination and intralaminar failure by a perfectly brittle law. Model 1 simulates failure according to 1), and Model 2 and Model 3 are able to simulate both, 1) and 2) mechanisms. Therefore, Model 2 and 3 can show which is the critical failure mechanism.
