This paper is a critique of dominant explanation about the racial disurbances that also appeared in the spanish literature about ethnic relations after El Ejido riot (Almeria, february of 2000), a case of collective racial violence that focused especially on migrant workers from Morocco. Influenced by the «miserabilism», a tendency in the social research concerning migration and racism, some social researchers has suggested that the segregation of inmigrants in different forms of social relations was the principal cause of this ethnic conflict. I will try to illustrate here the opposite thesis. The background which promoted this conflict was the continual desintegration of a social closuure system based in ethnic markers prevailing in the town as the presence of migrant workers increased rapidly in years previous to the ethnic outbreak, the principal conflict with ethnic minorities of postfranquist Spain
