How to fight against etnocentrism? My proposal here is, first, to make a comparison between two social and cultural bias: etnocentrism and androcentrism. And secondly, to analyze the western legacy of universalism. From a feminist point of view we have learnt how to deconstruct the partiality of a masculinistic view. If we learn to hear other women voices and their differences, it is possible to begin to deconstruct western prejudices – racist and etnocentrist bias, mainly- and to reconstruct new intercultural views and perspectives. The transnational character of feminism today could be seen as a laboratory where eroding etnocentrism: different cultural and etnic voices have challenged western identities as the universal ones. Universalism should be inclusive and democratic to deserve its own name. The critique to the insufficiencies of universalism has been and it is a feminist aim in theory and practice.
