With the uprising of digita l social channels, the traditional hegemony of media against to criticism and obser vation of their own readers has been diluted gradually to reveal the vulnerability of trust of society in journalism. The traditional and limited feedback pathways between reade rs and journalists, have been largely obsoleted by the rise of a more horiz ontal communication process sponsored by social networks. Citizens are now able to eng age in direct talks with journalists or sources of information, commenting, questioning or pointing out the news content. It is the emergence of so-calle d active audiences, a new type of receiver that stands as vital actor in the process its elf informative. In the pres ent communication, we inquire into the ethical implications of public participation in the process and practices that should be implemented professionals di fferentiate when this phenomenon.
