The paper presents a research study on parents' and their adolescent children's view on adolescence as a developmental stage. Participants were 113 families with adolescent sons and daughters. All participants responded to a questionnaire on adolescence. Multiple Correspondence Factor Analysis performed on the results showed that subjects' perceptions on adolescence can be grouped under three types of ideas. The first type agrees with social stereotypes; the second is characterised for having quite traditional ideas on education and development at this stage in life; whereas the third reflects a more positive approach to adolescence. Overall, parents view this stage more negatively, while adolescents are more optimistic. At the same time, parental perception is influenced by adolescents' age and parents' sex, but this is not the case among adolescents.
