The evaluation of the quality of composite-composite bonded joints is a major problem for the aeronautical sector given by the fact that a defective joint not only could paralyze the productive process, but it could also involve very high restoration costs. Currently, the quality of the bond is quantified by an interlaminar fracture toughness test. Usually the measurement of GC is carried out by the DCB (Double Cantilever Beam) test, which presents some weaknesses when the specimen to be tested is not symmetrical and when the toughness of the adherents is low. As an alternative to DCB, the drum peeling test is used, Climbing Drum Peel (CDP), which solves some of the above disadvantages. Both trials, however, are not likely to perform them "in situ." Therefore, a new peeling alternative was developed to solve these difficulties, Horizontal Drum Peel (HDP), which allows to carry out a peeling test directly on the real piece. In this work, the improvements of the new model of HDP are analyzed. At the same time, a new device, Horizontal Open Displacement (HOD) is presented, which simplifies the HDP test in several aspects. A test campaign is developed to evaluate quantitatively these two new test alternatives with the CDP reference test. |
