Coarse graining of elastic interactions under 20 MeV

Abstract

In a scattering experiment we make two particles to collide at di erent energies and study the result of that collision to obtain information about the interaction. Scattering has always been an important tool since Rutherford discovered the nucleus in 1911 using a beam of particles and a thin gold foil target. Almost everything we know about nuclear and atomic physics has been explained using these kind of experiments.
