Sin embargo los esfuerzos aún no son suficientes Spain is among the countries that have developed important actions aimed at improving energy efficiency. Spain is among the countries that have developed important actions aimed at improving energy efficiency. The success of these actions should favor the decoupling between energy consumption and economic growth. This research analyzes the determining factors that explain the changes in sectoral consumption as well as the degree of decoupling between energy consumption and economic growth achieved in Spain. The period analyzed extends between 2000-2015. The beginning of the series coincides with the entry into force of the first actions aimed at energy saving and the end is established by the availability of data. To answer the first research question, the LMDI-I decomposition technique is used in its additive variant. A second level decomposition allows answering the second question. This analysis is complemented by the Tapio index. The results show that the intensity effect played a notable role in compensating for sectoral energy consumption, and together with the structural effect, they contributed the most to the decoupling process. The sector of Industrial and Transport are those that showed greater efforts for decoupling. However, the efforts are still not enough |
