Tragedia griega y Western americano: estudio de cuatro casos

Abstract

Varios autores han llamado nuestra atención sobre la proximidad de la estructura de films como High Noon, de Fred Zinnemann (1952), y la tragedia ática, o The Searchers, de John Ford (1956), y la epopeya homérica. Nuestro estudio tiene como objetivo explorar la relación que se puede establecer entre la tragedia griega, en especial, y el Western, género cinematográfico que funciona como una “mitología para los EEUU”, a partir de cuatro casos. Este análisis se centra sobre todo en: The Furies de Anthony Mann (1950), The Magnificent Seven de John Sturges (1960), Fedra West de Joaquín Romero (1968) y Space Cowboys de Clint Eastwood (2000)

Several authors have called our attention to the proximity of the structure of films such as High Noon by Fred Zinnemann (1952) and Attic tragedy, or The Searchers by John Ford (1956), and the Homeric epic. Our study aims to explore the relationship that can be established between Greek tragedy, in particular, and the Western, film genre that works as a “Mythology to the US”, through four cases. This analysis focuses mainly on: The Furies by Anthony Mann (1950), The Magnificent Seven by John Sturges (1960), Fedra West by Joaquín Romero (1968) and Space Cowboys by Clint Eastwood (2000)
