Abstract | De acuerdo con el Diccionario de la lengua española, el término ‘paliativo’ se refiere a “algún determinado tratamiento o remedio: Que tiene como finalidad mitigar, suavizar o atenuar el dolor de un enfermo” (Real Academia ... De acuerdo con el Diccionario de la lengua española, el término ‘paliativo’ se refiere a “algún determinado tratamiento o remedio: Que tiene como finalidad mitigar, suavizar o atenuar el dolor de un enfermo” (Real Academia Española, 2017). De esta forma, la Arquitectura Paliativa es una tipología arquitectónica enfocada a facilitar el tratamiento de ciertas enfermedades. A fin de conocer la eficacia de los centros dentro de estas terapias, se realiza una serie de encuestas a los usuarios del centro Maggie’s West London [Fig. 1.0.5] para recoger de forma cualitativa una Evaluación Post-Ocupación (POE). Esta Evaluación Post-Ocupación ya fue llevada a cabo por La escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Dundee en el Maggie’s Centre de la misma ciudad. En esta investigación se tomara como caso de estudio el centro situado en Londres, con la idea de complementar la investigación existente y establecer posibles comparativas. En cuanto a los objetivos específicos, para la elección del muestreo, se analiza la historia y evolución de los centros, pudiendose concluir de forma válida para el proceso de investigación que la construcción de los Maggie’s Centres se dividen en tres etapas: En la primera etapa (1996-2006) se construyen cinco centros en Escocia, estos centros se extienden al sur del Reino Unido en la segunda etapa (2008-2011), y es en la tercera etapa (2012-Actualidad) cuando se entra en una fase de expansión total, construyéndose un total de nueve centros en Gran Bretaña y dos más fuera de sus fronteras (Hong Kong y Tokio). Además de estos centros, en la actualidad hay otros en fase de proyecto. Por cada una de las etapas anteriores, se analizarán tres centros, consiguiéndose un análisis de nueve centros que nos permita obtener un recorrido global, conocer los posibles cambios en la evolución temporal de dichos centros, y obtener un mapeo geográfico. A cada uno de los centros elegidos se le hará un análisis y se catalogará en un tabla resumen que permita establecer comparaciones entre ellos y obtener unos parámetros comunes de diseño con los que poder confirmar a la arquitectura como elemento fundamental en el tratamiento contra el cáncer, dando a conocer fuera de las fronteras de Reino Unido la existencia de estos Maggie’s Centres, e incluso creando unas líneas generales de diseño para Arquitectura Paliativa contra el cáncer. |
