dc.description.abstractSince the pilot project of teaching cinema as an optional artistic curricular subject in 2004, several schools have expressed interest in access this project. Cinema subject may take part of the artistic options, depending on the possibilities and the School‟s curricular project. This project was made possible due to a curricular reorganization considered in the Law Decree 209/2001 and from another experience promoted by the Algarve‟s Educational Regional Direction in partnership with Faro‟s Cineclub: project JCE (Youth-CinemaSchool). Six years later it is necessary to reflect upon all that was done. Two things were taken into account: the way the subject is incorporated in the 3rd cycle curriculum and the construction of educational resources to support and consolidate the project. This study‟s aim is to justify the need to introduce, in a thoughtful and consistent way, audiovisual studies in the schools national curriculum, as long as the valorization of artistic teaching and new technologies. This is also a way to bring closer school and external environment, the same is to say formal and informal knowledge. Cinema is connected with all the other artistic expressions and with all the other areas of knowledge. In traditional school systems, divided by subjects, this transversal component, allows the building of bridges between the several areas. Cinema included in the curriculum, can and must contribute to the student‟s awareness that knowledge cannot be fractioned, and to teachers understanding that the teaching/learning process will gain with the transmission of information by means of the audiovisuales
