Los Quesada: señores de Garcíez y Santo Tomé (Jaén) durante la dinastía Trastámara

Abstract

El presente artículo se centra en estudiar uno de los linajes de la baja nobleza que lograron consolidar su poder político y económico en el reino de Jaén tras su conquista. Procedentes de una de las tantas familias de la pequeña nobleza que llegaron a Andalucía al amparo de la guerra contra Granada, consiguió afianzar su posición en el reino de Jaén, convirtiéndose en el arquetipo del noble que va a progresar en territorio andaluz. Se analizan las vicisitudes vividas por los Quesada en el siglo XV, mostrando cómo su actividad militar en la frontera con Granada, el desempeño de cargos concejiles en la ciudad de Baeza y su actuación política al servicio de la Corona permitieron la consolidación de su linaje.

This article focuses on one of the lineages of the lower nobility that managed to consolidate its political and economic power in the kingdom of Jaén after the conquest. Belonging to one of the many families of the lower nobility that came to Andalusia to participate in the war against Granada, they managed to establish themselves in the kingdom of Jaén, turning into the archetype of the noble family that achieved success in the Andalusian territory. We will analyze the events related to the Quesada family in the fifteenth century, demonstrating how their military activity in the borderland with Granada, their role as councilors in the city of Baeza and their political involvement in the service of the Crown led to the consolidation of their lineage.
