La metáfora viquiana y la ciencia cognitiva: un problema de filosofía del lenguaje

Abstract

Desde los años Ochenta, con la llegada de la ciencia cognitiva de segunda generación, se ha afirmado el modelo de la embodied mind y la teoría lingüística ha representado en torno a la metáfora el núcleo de un verdadero y propio giro epistemológico. Ello ha permitido reforzar la función de antídoto desarrollada por el pensamiento viquiano, pero también reconocer en éste último un estímulo actual y penetrante a los nuevos desafíos de la investigación filosófica y no sólo en el ámbito del lenguaje. Vico, planteando la conversión de la retórica en filosofía del lenguaje, abre un escenario nuevo para discutir sobre el origen no sólo de la palabra, sino de los diversos modos humanos de ver la realidad. El presente estudio propone una relectura que sea consciente de la particularidad histórica de los argumentos que usa y de su terminología, atenta además a los problemas teóricos generales que la doctrina lingüística viquiana depara.

The second generation of cognitive science initiated in the Eighties has advocated themodel of embodied mind. On the other hand, linguistic theory has suffered a truthful epistemological turn by focussing on the notion of metaphor. Both things have allowed to reinforce the role of antidote played by Vichian thought, as well as to recognise it as lively and penetrating stimulus for the new challenges of philosophical investigation—not only those related to language. Vico, in proposing the conversion of rhetorics into a philosophy of language, puts forward a new scene in order to discuss the origin of word, but also the one of the many different ways in which humans see reality. This paper suggests a new reading: one which is aware of the historical particularity of the arguments it employs, as well as of its own terminology, and which pays due attention to the general theoretical problems proposed by Vichian linguistic doctrine.
