Mitos y realidades en la carrera docente

Abstract

A lo largo de este artículo,hemos querido presentar algunos de los factores que más han influido y han condicionando a los jóvenes en la elección de la carrera de magisterio. Comenzamos valorando esta profesión y señalando el reconocimiento que hace la sociedad de ella,así como algunas consideraciones que han sido emitidas por los organismos internacionales. Dado que la enseñanza ha estado ancestralmente vinculada al valor de la vocación,es bastante habitual reconocer que es éste y no otro,el motivo principal que estimula a los aspirantes a maestro;sin embargo,se trata de un testimonio que conviene matizar ya que un amplio número de investigaciones (De la Rosa Acosta,B.,1969;Ortega,F.y Varela,J.,1985;González Sanmamed,M.,1995;Sánchez Lissen,E.,2002) entre otras,coinciden en reconocer que coexisten junto a la vocación otros factores como:el salario,tratarse de una carrera corta,o el número de vacaciones de las que disfruta un docente y que son tan determinantes como aquella en el proceso de elección de una carrera.Todos ellos son motivaciones –posiblemente ni suficientes ni necesarias– pero motivos al fin y al cabo,que les llevan a inclinarse por esta carrera y por esta profesión. Analizamos algunos de estos elementos y comprobamos cuánto hay de mito y cuánto de realidad en cada uno de ellos

This paper aims to set out some of the most influential and determining factors for young people to choose a university degree in teaching. We start by assessing this career and pointing out the appreciation that society shows for it,as well as some considerations issued by International Organizations. As teaching has long been linked to the notion of vocation,we tend to think that this,and little else,is the main motive that encourages people to become schoolteachers.However,this statement has to be qualified, since there are many research studies (Rosa Acosta, B., 1969; Ortega, F. and Varela, J., 1985; González Sanmamed, M., 1995; Sánchez Lissen, E., 2002), among others,which indicate that,along with vocation,other factors such as wage,the short three-year degree course or the long leave schoolteachers have,also attract young people to choose a university degree in teaching.These motives - which may not be enough or necessary,but are motives just the same - may lead students to take up this degree and subsequent career. This paper analyses some of these suggested motivations and attempts to separate the element of myth and of reality in each of them
