El “Discurso sobre la desigualdad” de Rousseau como “historia filosofica

Abstract

El Discours sur l’origine et les fondements de l’ineglité parmi les hommes es, probablemente, la obra maestra de Rousseau, pero no fue entendida por el círculo ilustrado de París; lo fue, en cambio, por el círculo ilustrado alemán, en especial por Kant. Para comprender el libro resulta indispensable situarlo en el género literario al que pertenece, creado especialmente por Voltaire: el de la “historia filosófica”, esto es, la reconstrucción hipotético-normativa de los orígenes y evolución de la sociedad, que permitirá plantear el contrato social pertinente (contrapuesto al “contrato histórico”), cuyas directrices prescriptivas guiarán el presente y el futuro de la humanidad.

The Discours sur l’origine et les fondements de l’ineglité parmi les hommes is likely Rousseau’s masterly work, but it was not well understood by the Enlightened Circle of Paris; it was understood nevertheless by Enlightened German Circle, specially by Kant. In order to understand the book it is inexcusable to place him within the literary genre to which he belongs, created mainly by Voltaire: the genre of “Philosophical History”, that is, the hypothetic-normative Reconstruction of the Beginnings and the Evolution of Society, that which renders possible to establish the pertinent Social Contract (contrasted to “Historical Contract”), whose prescriptive orders will lead the Present and the Future of Mankind.
