In the eighteenth century second half, the sevillian sculpture school was at the end of a long era. Then took place the end of the Baroque style, and the neoclassical and academics critics polemize about the altarpiece, sculpture and its excessive ornamentation, with the idea of incorporate the classical simplicity. The scholars pushed for the study of classical sculpture by copies and drawings. Also, they insist in the abandonment of carved and polychromed wood as sculptor material. Finally we propose some attributions to Benito de Hita y Castillo, Manuel García de Santiago and Cayetano de Acosta. |
