dc.description.abstract | The function of Corax, one of the “Satyricon” minor characters, has puzzled scholars since the beginnings because of the poor state of the text. Several speculations have been done about his meaning and function: in this context, this paper aims at strengthen the M. Labate’s (1986) original supposition that Corax is the “betrayer” of the Croton’s scheme from an intertextual relationship: the opening scene of Aristophanes’ Ranae and Sat. 117, where finally Corax receives his name. Far from being just a slapstick character, distinguished by his coarseness, Corax, contemptuous and arrogant, shows a defiant attitude which can be thought as sign of the incipient betrayal. | es |
