Gestión patrimonial y colección museográfica de la catedral de Sevilla: de tesoro y museo a monumento vivo

Abstract

La catedral de Sevilla es un monumento de gran fuerza histórica, vivo espiritual y patrimonialmente. La génesis y dinámica de la organización actual responde a un esfuerzo colectivo, prolongado en el tiempo durante más de veinte años; esta investigación señala sus etapas y sus claves patrimoniales. La catedral coordina y compagina la naturaleza primigenia del templo con la restauración y conservación, incentiva la investigación en sus archivos y bibliotecas, promueve y acoge actividades. La monumentalidad del edificio y de sus colecciones acapara el interés por conocerlo; el turismo genera la mayoría de sus recursos económicos.

The Cathedral of Seville is a living historic monument with a vast, rich artistic heritage. Its current management policy, which is the result of a large team’s work over the past twenty years, focuses on combining the use of the cathedral as a place of worship with restoration and preservation works. It also promotes research in its archives and libraries, and houses artistic and social events. The building itself is so attrative, that it draws huge crowds of tourists every year, their fees contributing to its preservation.
