The search for innovative methods for the capture and use of CO2, as well as new high-capacity energy storage technologies, is crucial to mitigate climate change and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This master's thesis focuses on the study and design of flow cleaning systems in a novel energy storage technology that integrates transcritical CO2 and geological storage, which stores CO2 in the subsoil in the loading process and recovers it in the unloading process. The project is developed within the framework of the Horizon Europe CEEGS research project. In this context, the capture of CO2 in saline cavities for its subsequent use in energy generation is addressed. CO2 streams will carry particles and compounds that can damage power production systems (compressors, turbines, exchangers). In this work, different CO2 stream cleaning systems have been evaluated, as auxiliary systems for an energy storage system of this type, designed and adapted to the scale and mode of operation. The systems designed show a high particle removal capacity, minimizing the impact of impurities on the power production block. |
