La imagen del Africano entre los portugueses antes de los contactos

Abstract

Con este trabajo pretendemos aproximarnos y evaluar los referentes culturales de los primeros viajeros que visitaron África y sus primeras impresiones sobre los nativos de las tierras visitadas. Esos referentes se constituyen como un código del que forman parte clasificaciones varias, estereotipos, lugares comunes y valores que son compartidos, en lo fundamental, por el Occidente cristiano, espacio cultural al que pertenece Portugal.

With this work weintend to approach and evaluate the cultural references of the first travelers who visited Africa and their first impressions about the natives of thelands visited. These references are constituted as a code that includes various classifications, stereotypes, common places and values that are shared, fundamentally,by the Christian West, the cultural space to which Portugal belongs.
