This Master’s Thesis focuses on the study of the fatigue behavior of the stays of the Hernani cable-stayed bridge, an integral part of the railway infrastructure known as the Basque Y, which connects the municipalities of Hernani and Astigarraga, in the province of Gipuzkoa. This bridge represents a significant milestone as it is the first cable-stayed bridge for railways in Spain. Given that the bridge supports high-speed trains, fatigue analysis is of great importance, as the structure is subjected to cyclic loads. To carry out this analysis, it was necessary to develop a simplified model of the viaduct using the Midas Civil software, given the complexity of the structure. Both the materials of the structure, the geometry and the boundary conditions, as well as the loads it supports, were respected. Subsequently, a dynamic analysis was carried out to calculate the stress variations caused by each of the trains, in accordance with the fatigue specifications established in the Instruction of Actions to Consider in Railway Bridges (IAPF-10). Using the Fatigue Curve or S-N Curve of the Structural Code, the damages caused by these trains were evaluated, with the aim of determining if the fatigue damage is relevant throughout the useful life of the structure, estimated at 100 years. |
