Este estudio versa sobre el funcionamiento del lenguaje figurado en el discurso parlamentario; en concreto sobre los tropos, que, tradicionalmente, han sido identificados con lo que reconocemos como lenguaje cuidado, elaborado e incluso literario, cuyo estudio se ha llevado a cabo desde la Retórica. Los tropos, según Laugsberg (1967: 58), “se hallan al servicio del ornatus, y, al encubrir la voluntas semantica, ayuda especialmente a evitar el taedium.” Representan una voluntad por parte del hablante de “lanzarse a la impropiedad” en el campo semántico con el objetivo de dinamizar el discurso, y envolverlo de “extrañamiento”. Los tropos, según este autor, suponen la sustitución o desplazamiento de una palabra por otra, a la que se le encomienda servir de cauce a una nueva significación, reconocida por el receptor a través del cotexto y de la situación. Entre los tropos, Lausberg (1967) sitúa la metáfora, la metonimia, la sinécdoque, el énfasis, la hipérbole, la antonomasia, la ironía, la lítotes y la perífrasis. Las necesidades de espacio, en un trabajo de esta naturaleza, nos han obligado a centrar el grueso del análisis en el tropo por antonomasia: la metáfora, y lo que nosotros entendemos, siguiendo a diversos autores, un subtipo de ella: la metonimia.
El punto de vista adoptado parte de la base de que no existe un lenguaje figurado y otro literal, sino un único lenguaje para la comunicación humana, dos usos distintos dentro del mismo lenguaje (base de la Teoría de la Relevancia y la Lingüística Cognitiva). El corpus utilizado para el presente estudio está compuesto de diversos Diarios de Sesiones del Parlamento de Andalucía2 (concretamente, los números 110, 112, 115, 121, 122 y 133), pertenecientes al año 2011 (VIII Legislatura), en los que se da un número paritario de intervenciones de hombres y mujeres parlamentarios.
